Glasgow has a wealth of fantastic bakeries and Cottonrake on Great Western Road is one of them. Situated at the Kelvinbridge end of Gt Western Road, on the corner of Bank Street, this stylish bakery specialises in making fresh bread, cakes and savouries on-site, blending British home baking with French patisserie, to eat in and take away.
As you walk in, there is a narrow wooden table along the window to your left with space to sit, a few stools along the window to your right and the main event right in front of you…
Tarts, fraginpanes, cookies, cakes and brownies are disaplayed in front of you. To the right, a myriad of breads. They also prepare savoury tarts, sausage rolls and sandwiches for lunchtime.
The hot chocolate is made from scratch with real chocolate and comes topped with a homemade marshmallow which melts into the indugent richness of the chocolate.
Its well worth checking this place out but just remember there is only room for about 10 people to sit. If you’re going at lunchtime, be prepared to queue. Also, get there early as they sell out every day. At the weekends they make double the amount and still sell out. Clearly Glaswegians know when they’re onto a good thing!
